Our Conductors


ABC & Intermediate Band


Multi-instrumentalist and conductor Geeta Das has studied, performed and taught music nationally and internationally for over twenty years and has performed with many world-renowned artists. Her music credentials include studying at Douglas College and the University of British Columbia.


Geeta is a well-known professional musician and a busy music educator in Metro Vancouver and beyond.


We are very fortunate that she has joined MRCB as the intermediate and beginner band conductor.


Performance Band

Anne Bonnycastle is an accomplished musician, conductor, composer, administrator and concert producer.  She is currently the head of music at Crofton House School in Vancouver.  She works with concert bands, orchestras and choirs.  For four years she has produced and conducted full-length benefit orchestral concerts with professional musicians, with all proceeds going to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.  With extensive educational credentials from institutions in North America and Europe, she is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree through Boston University.


We are very lucky to have her as Conductor for the Performance Band.


Performance Band


​Dr. John van Deursen will be working with the Performance Band from January 2020 until the May 26, 2020 Spring Concert while Anne concentrates on a major production of Mamma Mia! at Crofton House School.

John is an active conductor, ensemble clinician and arranger/composer.

He currently holds the position of Head of Instrumental Ensembles at Douglas College. As a professional educator, John has worked with and mentored young musicians across Asia and Western Canada through a multitude of clinics with bands and orchestras, as Music Director of the Surrey Youth Orchestra (2011 - 2015), and as Head of the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre (2009 – 2011).

Prior to his appointment to the College, John was Associate Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra and Director of the Concert Winds at the University of British Columbia.
