Envision Financial Bandstand Birthday Bash
Held on June 14th, 2014
June 14th, 2014 was a special celebration day for the Maple Ridge Concert Band. On this day, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the building of our beautiful bandstand in downtown Maple Ridge! The Maple Ridge Concert Band built this bandstand in 1994 from donated funds and materials from within the Maple Ridge community. Ringing the bandstand base are numerous brass plaques celebrating many of the larger donors who helped to make the creation of this bandstand a reality. Visit the bandstand to see the many brass plaques around the base.
The Envision Financial Bandstand Birthday Bash was a day of performances in the Memorial Peace Park featuring concert bands, jazz bands, singers, dancers, actors, and even a wedding! Yes, during the Envision Financial Bandstand Birthday Bash, two band members were married in a special ceremony on the bandstand! This day harkens back to the opening of the bandstand in June of 1994 when George Price, one of the key fundraising organizers was also married on the bandstand that he helped build. Check out the video from CTV news below which shows the opening ceremony, and also a clip from the wedding!
“To me, it’s so much more than just a beautiful bandstand,” said Avi Kay, manager of title sponsor, Envision Financial’s Ridge Meadows branch. “It’s a symbol representing 20 years of artistic vibrance in this great city. Maple Ridge supports the arts, and this an important community space that brings people together. Envision Financial is really looking forward to partnering with the Maple Ridge Concert Band for the bandstand’s Birthday Bash celebration—it’s going to be a fantastic family event!”
